Simulation of Production and Assembly Line

Module XI

In this module, students learn the fundamental concepts of systems, modeling, and simulation within the context of production and assembly lines using FlexSim software. They develop an understanding of how system elements such as machines, operators, materials, and production flows interact within a manufacturing system. The module also introduces Discrete Event Simulation (DES), system characteristics, and 3D model development using key FlexSim objects such as fixed resources, task executers, and flow items.

Practically, students perform data generation, data adequacy testing, and distribution fitting using ExpertFit. The simulation model is developed by incorporating routing files, inspection time, defect percentages, downtime, and the use of the statistics collector. The final output is a complete production line simulation equipped with an analytical dashboard. Verification and validation processes are conducted to ensure that the model accurately represents the real system.

Simulation of Process Flow

Module XII

In this module, students learn how to design and model service process flows using the Process Flow feature in FlexSim. The primary focus is on structuring logical algorithms based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), service flow, customer arrival times, working hours, and number of workers. Students create both general process flows and person process flows to systematically represent service activities within a system.

In addition to building the simulation model, students analyze arrival time distributions, generate random numbers, conduct data adequacy tests, and perform distribution fitting. The final stage includes simulation, verification, validation, dashboard creation, and the development of an SOP based on simulation results. This module emphasizes logical thinking, process standardization, and quantitative evaluation of service system performance.
